Beyond the role

Life in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of the world's great cities — a place where skyscrapers rise from harbour-front hills, centuries-old temples sit between Michelin-starred restaurants, and the MTR whisks you across the whole island in under half an hour. It is dense, fast, and relentlessly stimulating, with an English-language infrastructure that makes it one of Asia's most accessible cities for Western expats. The food scene is extraordinary — Cantonese cuisine at its finest, alongside virtually every other culinary tradition you can name. Hiking trails lace the hills above the city, beaches are a short bus ride from the urban core, and weekend escapes to Macau or the Chinese mainland are easy. The cost of living is high, particularly for housing, and the city has grown more politically complex in recent years — both realities worth factoring in. But for those who thrive on energy, international connection, and the particular thrill of a city that never quite slows down, Hong Kong remains one of the most compelling places on earth to live and do ministry.
