About the role

Sent and supported through Mission to the World (MTW), the PCA's mission agency — candidate must raise personal support.

Primarily English-speaking ministry; Spanish helpful but no language school required.

Listing is open to 1–11 month commitments as well as longer-term; seminary students fulfilling internship requirements also considered.

Strategic dual focus: growing the church plant and developing a university campus ministry.

Key responsibilities

  • Preach every Sunday and provide regular pastoral leadership to the new congregation.
  • Lead regular Bible studies for church members and university students.
  • Help launch and develop a campus ministry at the University of Belize.
  • Reach Belmopan's business, student, and professional communities with the gospel.
  • Build and disciple a congregation with a Reformed, covenantal theological foundation.

Requirements

  • Must be a ordained teaching elder (or on track for ordination) within Reformed/Presbyterian tradition.
  • Heart for students and campus ministry strongly preferred.
  • Ability to raise personal missionary support through MTW.
  • English fluency required; Spanish beneficial.
  • Willing to relocate with family to Belmopan, Belize.

Theology & Culture

We want candidates to know exactly where we stand before they apply. Great Commission Presbyterian Church has shared the following convictions:

Women in Ministry

Complementarian

Men and women serve across many ministries, with senior pastoral or elder roles reserved for qualified men.

Sexual Ethics

Traditional

Affirms historic Christian teaching on marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman.

Beyond the role

Life in Belmopan

Belmopan is one of the world's smallest and youngest capital cities — purpose-built in the 1970s after a hurricane devastated the former capital Belize City, and still carrying that planned, unhurried character today. It sits in the interior of the country, surrounded by jungle and rivers, and is a genuinely easy place to settle: the pace is slow, the community is tight-knit, and English is the official language, making daily life far more accessible than most Central American postings. Belize itself is a fascinating cultural crossroads — Caribbean, Mayan, Garifuna, Creole, Mennonite, and Latin influences all coexist in a country of fewer than 450,000 people. The natural environment is extraordinary: Belmopan sits within easy reach of cave systems, jungle reserves, Mayan ruins, and the world's second-largest barrier reef along the coast. The University of Belize draws students from across the country, giving the city a dynamic demographic that punches above its size. Cost of living is modest, and the lack of a language barrier makes it one of the more accessible mission contexts in the region. The trade-off is limited urban infrastructure — shopping, medical care, and amenities are basic by Western standards, with Belize City about an hour away for anything more substantial.
